Yes. You earn Robux on Roblox by making things: games with passes and in-game items, or avatar items. Roblox Studio is free, and you keep 70% of what players spend on your game passes. To turn earned Robux into money through DevEx, you must be 13 or older and hold 30,000.
Roblox says Robux are either bought or earned as a creator, and this page is about earning. It takes time and skill more than money. Selling avatar items is the exception: that needs a paid membership. Roblox's rules and rates below come from its own pages, which we read on 26 September 2026.
Can you earn Robux from making games?
Yes. Roblox's Ways to Get Robux page names two ways to earn: build a game, or sell avatar items on the Marketplace. Its Developer Exchange, called DevEx, then turns earned Robux into money.
Roblox's own rule of thumb is simple. Creators generally keep 70% of what they sell for Robux in their own game, and 30% of what they sell on the Marketplace. Roblox's share pays for app store fees, servers, support and programs like Creator Rewards.
You build in Roblox Studio, which is free for Windows and Mac. There's no phone version on its setup page, so plan on a computer. Roblox doesn't charge for hosting up front either.
Roblox is blunt about the odds, though. Its DevEx page says only successful creators reach the bar, and that it "typically requires a lot of time, effort, skill, and strategy." Even then, it says, there's no guarantee.
The numbers agree. Of the millions of creators who earn on Roblox, Roblox says over 35,000 are in DevEx. The median one of them received $1,550 in 2025. That's the middle of those who already cash out, not of everyone who tries. In all, Roblox paid $1.5 billion in DevEx fees in 2025, up from $923 million in 2024, its shareholder letter shows.
Roblox also says "any offer of free Robux" is a scam. Our free Robux guide explains how those work.
What is earned Robux?
Earned Robux are the ones you get by making things, and only they can go through DevEx. Roblox counts these:
- Sales in your game: passes, developer products, subscriptions, paid private servers and paid entry.
- Avatar items you sell, and your cut when avatar items sell inside your game.
- Creator Rewards, and ads shown in your game.
- Payouts from a group, when the group's Robux are real earnings.
These never count:
- Robux you buy, and Robux from a gift card.
- The monthly Robux that come with a Roblox subscription.
- Robux someone transfers to you.
- Robux from trading or reselling items.
- Pass sales in template games with no real visitors.
That's why a gift card you earned with surveys can buy things, but its Robux can never be cashed out.
How much Robux do you earn from making a game?
It depends on what you sell. We took each share from Roblox's own pages and worked out what 1,000 Robux spent by a player leaves you:
| What the player buys | You keep | Worth through DevEx | At the US 18+ rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your game pass | 700 | $2.66 | $3.78 |
| Your developer product | 700 | $2.66 | $3.78 |
| Your subscription in Robux, each month | 700 | $2.66 | $3.78 |
| Your paid private server, each month | 700 | $2.66 | $3.78 |
| Paid entry to your game | 700 | $2.66 | Not covered |
| Your avatar item, bought in your game | 700 | $2.66 | Not covered |
| Your avatar item, Marketplace, at the price floor | 300 | $1.14 | Not covered |
| Your avatar item, Marketplace, at 6 times the floor | 700 | $2.66 | Not covered |
| Your avatar item, bought in someone else's game | 300 | $1.14 | Not covered |
| Someone else's avatar item, bought in your game | 400 | $1.52 | Not covered |
| A Robux transfer sent in your game | 100 | $0.38 | Not covered |
A US player pays $9.99 for 1,000 Robux on the web. Spent on your game pass, that's worth $2.66 to you through DevEx, or $3.78 if the 18+ rate applies. For the price side, see our page on what a Robux is worth.
A few things move these numbers:
- Plus members pay less, but you don't earn less. They get 10% to 20% off most items. Roblox covers the gap, so your share stays the same.
- Avatar items pay more when priced higher. On the Marketplace, your share grows from 30% at the price floor to 50% at twice it, and 70% from six times it. Sales inside a game pay the creator the base 30%.
- Your share waits a while. Pass and product sales are held about 5 days, avatar items 30 days, and Creator Rewards 60 days.
- Classic 2D clothing is unclear. One guide we read says classic shirts pay 70%. Roblox's current fee page gives them no separate rate, so we can't confirm it.
How do you earn Robux in Roblox Studio?
Start small. A realistic first project looks like this:
- Get a Roblox account. If you're under the age of majority, a parent or guardian must agree to Roblox's terms first.
- Install Roblox Studio on a Windows or Mac computer. It's free and needs at least 3 GB of memory.
- Build something small and publish it. You can't create a pass until the game is published.
- Add one game pass or developer product. You set the price, from 1 Robux up.
- Let people play. Daily engagement rewards start on their own, with nothing to sign up for.
- Watch your earned Robux in the Creator Hub. At 13 or older, with 30,000 of them, you can ask for a DevEx cash out.
If you'd rather work on someone else's game, Roblox's Talent Hub lists jobs, and some are paid. It isn't open to anyone under 13. A team can pay its members through a Roblox group, which costs 100 Robux to create. A group can send one-off payments or split a game's earnings by fixed shares. Those payouts count as earned Robux when the group's Robux are real earnings.
How old do you have to be to sell UGC on Roblox?
Roblox sets checks, not one age. To sell avatar items (UGC), you need a government ID check, which needs age 13 or over, or a linked parent account. You also need Roblox Plus or Premium 1000/2200, and 2-step verification.
Paying for Plus is a money deal, and Roblox's terms allow those only for adults. Anyone younger needs a parent to pay. That matters here: of Roblox users who checked their age, 73% were under 18, going by Roblox's letter for late 2025. See also our page on who plays Roblox.
Every route starts with a Roblox account, which a parent must approve for a minor. On top of that, each has its own rule:
| Way to earn | Age rule | Other checks |
|---|---|---|
| Sell avatar items | ID check (13+) or a linked parent account | Plus or Premium 1000/2200, 2-step |
| Charge entry in Robux | Not stated | Verified email, account 30 days old |
| Ads in your game | 13+ | ID check, 2-step |
| Creator Rewards for new players | 13+ | ID check, DevEx account |
| Sell models and plugins for dollars | 18+, or 13 to 17 with a parent | Age or ID check, 2-step |
| Jobs on Talent Hub | 13+ | None listed |
| DevEx cash out | 13+ | 30,000 earned Robux, email, tax form |
The US 18+ rate is about the buyer, not you. Roblox says creators anywhere can get it, as long as their game qualifies.
How much does it cost to sell UGC on Roblox?
More than a game does. Four costs stack up:
- A membership. Roblox Plus costs $4.99 a month. Premium hasn't been sold since 30 April 2026, but Premium 1000 and 2200 members still qualify.
- An upload fee of 80 Robux per item, or 500 for items with an emissive mask. It's usually not refunded if moderation rejects the item.
- A publishing advance of 10 to 2,500 Robux, depending on the item. Roblox pays it back out of its own share of your sales.
- Roblox's cut on every sale, from the table above.
Roblox calls classic 2D clothing the most basic item to make. A classic T-shirt costs the 80 Robux upload fee and a 10 Robux advance, on top of the membership.
How does Roblox Creator Rewards work?
Creator Rewards pay you Robux when players spend time in your game or join Roblox through it. Nobody has to buy anything in your game. There are two parts.
Daily engagement pays 5 Robux a day for each Active Spender who plays your game for 10 minutes or more. It counts only if yours is among the first three games they play for 10 minutes that day. An Active Spender has spent at least $9.99 on Roblox in the past 60 days.
Audience expansion pays 35% of the first $100 a new or returning player spends in their first 60 days, if your game brought them in. It needs an ID check and a DevEx account. Your game must also average 100 or more daily players for 60 days.
Rewards arrive as earned Robux after a 60-day hold. Daily engagement has paid every creator since 24 July 2025, with nothing to sign up for.
Creator Rewards replaced Engagement-Based Payouts, which many guides call Premium Payouts, and the old affiliate program. We read eight guides that rank for these searches on 26 September 2026. Five still describe one of those as current, and none mentions Roblox Plus.
On daily engagement alone, it's slow going. At 5 Robux each, reaching 30,000 earned Robux takes 6,000 qualifying daily plays.
How do you earn Robux on PLS DONATE?
It doesn't work the way it used to. Donation games sold your game passes inside their own game. Since the end of May 2026, Roblox no longer lets anyone sell passes or developer products in another game.
Donations now go through Robux transfers. Only Roblox Plus members can send one. Anyone under 18 who sends or receives needs a linked parent account and a parent's approval every time. Each transfer is 10 to 500 Robux.
The person who receives gets 90%, and the game gets 10%. Only the game's 10% is earned Robux. The receiver's 90% can be spent, but it can't be cashed out.
How much does Roblox DevEx pay?
The standard rate is $0.0038 per earned Robux, so the 30,000 minimum pays $114. Since 8 June 2026, some Robux pay $0.0054 instead, which is $162 per 30,000.
That higher rate covers passes, developer products, Robux subscriptions and private servers. The buyer must be a US player who proved they're 18 or older, in an eligible game. Avatar items never qualify. Robux you earned before 5 September 2025 still cash out at the old rate, $0.0035.
What are the Roblox DevEx requirements?
The DevEx page lists them. Be 13 or older, hold 30,000 earned Robux, verify your email, have a DevEx portal account, and file a US tax form (W-9 or W-8).
Use your legal name on the request. A nickname or a family member's name can make you ineligible or slow the review. You can cash out once a month. Roblox estimates about 10 business days the first time and 5 after that, plus bank time. The payout company charges a fee that depends on how you're paid.
This table shows the selling it takes to hold 30,000 earned Robux, using the shares above:
| Your share | Robux players must spend | Or this many sales |
|---|---|---|
| 70% (passes, products, your own game) | 42,858 | 429 passes at 100 Robux |
| 30% (Marketplace item at the floor) | 100,000 | 1,000 items at 100 Robux |
| 10% (transfers in your game) | 300,000 | 3,000 transfers of 100 |
Does Roblox DevEx get taxed?
Yes, and the rules change on 1 November 2026. From then, Roblox treats DevEx payments as royalties for US tax.
If you live outside the US and give valid tax details by 31 October, 0% to 30% US tax may be held back. It applies to the part of each payout that came from US players, and depends on your country's tax treaty. Without valid details, Roblox may hold back 24% of the whole payout.
US creators with a valid W-9 have nothing held back. Roblox's terms also warn that a minor's earnings can affect their parents' tax return. Roblox doesn't give tax advice, as its tax page says, so ask someone who does.
Can you earn Robux by doing surveys?
Not Robux itself. Roblox's terms say using an outside service that sells or transfers Robux breaks its rules. Some rewards apps let you swap points for a Roblox gift card instead, which costs time, not money.
We build PaysFair, an earning app that competes with survey apps like the one below. PaysFair is for people 16 and over.
Google Opinion Rewards, for example, pays Google Play credit for surveys. Google says it's for people over 18, and each credit expires a year after you earn it. On an Android phone, that credit can buy Robux in the Roblox app. Our guide to earning a Roblox gift card with surveys compares the apps and the age rules we could read.
Either way, those Robux aren't earned Robux. You can spend them, but they'll never go through DevEx. Only Robux earned by making things can.
