How to get a free Xbox gift card

Microsoft's own free route is Microsoft Rewards: it's free to join, and gift cards to Microsoft Store or Xbox start from 1,600 points, its Xbox page says. Points come from Bing searches, playing on Xbox and other tasks. Microsoft says it will never ask you to pay for support with gift cards.

How does Microsoft Rewards pay in Xbox gift cards?

Microsoft's services agreement, effective September 30, 2026, says Microsoft Rewards "is free to join" and that "There is no cost to activate your Rewards Account." Its Xbox Rewards page lists the price levels.

How you earn. Microsoft's help lists Bing searches, buying from the Microsoft Store, quizzes on the earn page, and playing selected games or quests on Xbox. Points are only awarded for qualifying purchases, its Rewards page adds, and subscriptions and gift card purchases don't count.

The rules on points. Points "have no cash value," the agreement says, and they can't be transferred. You may open only one Rewards account, and a household is limited to six. Using a VPN to hide where you are can get your account canceled and your points forfeited. Your account may also be canceled, and your points lost, if you don't log in to your Microsoft account for 12 months in a row.

Where you redeem. "Offers vary by country," Microsoft's help says, so redeem in the region you signed up in. It also warns that "Some gift cards aren't always available through Microsoft Rewards."

What do Microsoft's rules say about an Xbox gift card?

Redeemed cards become Microsoft account balance, and Microsoft's gift card terms set the rules. "Non-promotional account balance doesn't expire," and there are no fees for keeping a balance. Promotional balance can expire under its own terms. You can't use your balance to get cash or cash substitutes, except where the law requires, and "Your Microsoft account balance is non-transferable to another person or Microsoft account."

Which other apps pay in Xbox gift cards?

Fetch. Its Xbox page says the best way to earn enough points for Xbox gift cards is to "shop your offers," and to submit every receipt. Fetch pays at least 25 points a receipt, so you shop first, and your points expire if your account is inactive for 90 days in a row, its help says.

Which free Xbox offers are scams?

Microsoft's own page on tech support scams is plain: "Microsoft will never ask that you pay for support in the form of cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, or gift cards." The FTC says "No real business or government agency will ever tell you to buy a gift card to pay them." In 2024, its Consumer Sentinel Network took in 41,120 fraud reports in which people paid by gift card or reload card, with $212 million reported lost.

The search results are full of bait. We got nine results for "free xbox gift card" on October 24, 2026, and eight sat on sites with nothing to do with Xbox. They were on a family learning nonprofit's store, a university's payments site (twice), a home security brand's site, a movie database's user list, an obituary site, a cocktail foundation's shop and a tutoring company's site. We opened none of them. The ninth, a 2022 news post about a Microsoft giveaway, wouldn't load for us.

What do other guides on this leave out?

There was little to read. Besides Fetch's own Xbox page, the pages that rank for this and related searches were blocked, gone or blog posts on unrelated sites, so we couldn't compare guides. Fetch's page gives no points price for a card and doesn't mention its 90-day expiry.
