Steam's own reward, Steam Points, comes from buying on Steam and is spent on community items in the Points Shop. Some earning apps pay in Steam cards, each by its own rules. If someone asks to be paid in Steam Wallet Gift Cards, you're most likely being targeted by a scam, Valve says.

We build PaysFair, an earning app that competes with the apps below, so check their numbers yourself. PaysFair is for people 16 and over. We read Valve's pages, each app's pages and the search results on October 24, 2026.

What does Steam itself give you?

Valve's help says "Whenever you make a purchase on Steam, you'll gain Steam Points based on how much you spent." Points "can be redeemed in The Points Shop for a variety of community content," so they come back on spending, as community items.

Steam Wallet money follows Valve's Steam Subscriber Agreement, last updated September 10, 2026.

RuleWhat Valve's agreement says
RefundsWallet funds are non-refundable
TransfersNon-transferable, and so is your account
Cash"No cash value," not exchangeable for cash
Limit$2,000 in and out in any 24 hours

The agreement says wallet funds "have no value outside Steam." The limit counts what's stored in your wallet plus what you spend out of it, within any 24-hour period.

Which apps pay in Steam gift cards?

These two name Steam on their own pages.

AppSteam cardThe catch
JumpTask$5 to $50, by regionIt also says game store cards start at $50
FreecashListed, by regionFirst cash-out $5 to $20, an ID check

JumpTask. Its gift cards page lists Steam among its popular options and says "Steam cards run from $5 to $50, by region." The same page says some cards, "like game store cards, start at $50," so check the minimum in the app. Your first payout starts at $1, then $0.50, and each card matches one country and currency.

Freecash. Its Steam page notes that "Availability and redemption method depend on your region and may not be directly available." It also suggests withdrawing another way, such as Amazon, and using that to buy Steam gift cards. Your first cash-out needs $5 to $20, depending on your region, and an ID check with a selfie, its help says (October 22, 2026).

Earning apps like ours. PaysFair pays for surveys, games and campaigns with a gift card by email, from a $1.00 smallest cash-out. Your first cash-out is checked by hand. Its cash-out screen asks for the amount and the email address the card goes to, with no choice of brand. So we can't promise you a Steam card. Our gift card apps guide compares more apps that pay in cards.

Which free Steam offers are scams?

Valve's own gift card page describes the main one. Scammers call people and push them to buy cards "to cover payment for taxes, bail, debts," often posing as agencies "such as the I.R.S." Steam Wallet Gift Cards "can only be redeemed on Steam," Valve says. "Never give out a Steam Wallet Gift Card to a person you do not know." The FTC says "No real business or government agency will ever tell you to buy a gift card to pay them." In 2024, its Consumer Sentinel Network took in 41,120 fraud reports in which people paid by gift card or reload card, with $212 million reported lost.

If you've bought cards for a scammer but haven't handed over the codes, take them back to the store. Valve says "Steam Wallet Gift Cards that have been activated but not redeemed yet are normally refundable at retail." If you've already given the codes away, keep the cards and the receipt, and report it to your local police and the FTC, it says.

The search results are full of bait. All nine results for "free steam gift card" on October 24, 2026 were blog posts on sites with nothing to do with Steam. Five sat on an art museum's store (twice), a stroller maker's site, a university athletics marketplace and a record label's store. The other four were on a wedding guide, a Chilean university's research center, a law firm's subdomain and a French marketing company's site. We didn't open any of them.

We read two guides that rank for related searches on October 24, 2026, plus the two apps' own pages and one generator page. One guide warns that code generator sites are scams. The other lists "Free Steam code generator" among popular searches without a warning. None gives Valve's wallet rules or its scam advice, or names the FTC. The generator page, on a free documentation host, promises unlimited Steam Wallet codes and sends readers to an outside cheats site.
