Target's free perks come through Target Circle, its free membership: Target Circle Rewards and a birthday gift every year. Rewards expire in a year unless you use them or earn more, and they can't buy Target GiftCards. Gift cards can't be used for payments, Target warns.

What does Target give you for free?
Target Circle is free to join, and its page lists more discounts, Target Circle Rewards, exclusive events and "a birthday gift every year." Announcing the program's relaunch for April 2024, Target described the free membership as personalized deals and member-exclusive sales, with deals applied automatically at checkout.
Target Circle Rewards "expire in one year, unless you use them or earn more," Target says. You can apply them to a later order, in stores or online. They can't be spent on Target GiftCards, other gift cards or prepaid cards, alcohol, dairy, pharmacy items or same-day delivery, among other exclusions.

Which apps pay in Target gift cards?

Mistplay. Its gift cards page names Target among the brands players have earned rewards from. "An ID check is now part of getting gift cards from the Mistplay Shop for all players," its help says (October 22, 2026), and its terms cap rewards at $550 a calendar year. Mistplay is for adults only.
Fetch. Its Target page says the best way to earn enough points for Target gift cards is to "shop your offers," and to submit every receipt. It adds that Target "is not a participating partner in or sponsor of this offer." Fetch pays at least 25 points a receipt, and your points expire if your account is inactive for 90 days in a row, its help says.
Freecash. Its Target page notes that "Availability and redemption method depend on your region and may not be directly available." It suggests withdrawing another way, then buying Target gift cards. Your first cash-out needs $5 to $20, depending on your region, and an ID check with a selfie, its help says (October 22, 2026).

Which free Target offers are scams?
Target's own gift card page warns about calls, emails and texts that ask you "to purchase gift cards to pay a debt, fine, taxes or another fee." Its answer is short: "Gift cards cannot be used for payments." Target tells you to report a suspected scam to local authorities or the FTC. The FTC says "No real business or government agency will ever tell you to buy a gift card to pay them." In 2024, its Consumer Sentinel Network took in 41,120 fraud reports in which people paid by gift card or reload card, with $212 million reported lost.
The free card deals in the results aren't new. Two of the nine results we got for "free target gift card" on October 24, 2026 were deal posts, from 2018 and 2023. Both needed a purchase: a free card with groceries, and a free $5 card with $50 of gift cards bought through February 11, 2023.
What do other guides on this leave out?
We read two guides that rank for this on October 24, 2026, plus Fetch's and Freecash's own Target pages, and three more pages wouldn't load for us. One guide says Target Circle members earn 1% cashback, a rate Target's Circle page and its 2024 announcement don't list for the free membership. Neither guide says Target Circle Rewards expire, quotes Target's scam warning or names the FTC. The other guide was last updated in May 2021.

How can I get a free Target gift card?
Target's own perks come through Target Circle, its free membership, as rewards and deals. Some earning apps pay in Target cards, such as Mistplay, Fetch and Freecash, each under its own rules.
Can you use Target Circle Rewards to buy gift cards?
No. Target's own list of exclusions includes Target GiftCards, specialty gift cards, and Visa, American Express and Mastercard gift cards and prepaid cards.
Do Target Circle Rewards expire?
Yes. Target says they expire in one year, unless you use them or earn more.
Do Target gift cards expire?
No. Target's own gift card page says no fees and no expiration. The cards work only at Target stores and on Target.com, and can't be redeemed for cash except where the law requires.

The free card deals in the search results date from 2018 and 2023, and both needed a purchase. Target warns that a call, email or text asking you to buy gift cards to pay a debt, fine or taxes is a scam.
