Starbucks gives free items through Starbucks Rewards: a birthday drink or food item once you've made a Star-earning purchase that year, and Stars at 1 per $1 for Green members, so a 200-Star drink takes $200 of spending. Stars can't be turned into Starbucks Cards, its terms say.
We build PaysFair, an earning app that competes with some of the apps below, so check their numbers yourself. PaysFair is for people 16 and over. We read each company's own pages on October 23 and 24, 2026.
What does Starbucks give you for free?
Starbucks' Rewards terms, effective March 10, 2026, have three levels. Everyone starts at Green and earns 1 Star per $1. Gold takes 500 Stars in 12 months and earns 1.2 Stars per $1; Reserve takes 2,500 and earns 1.7.
| Stars | What you get | Worth up to |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | $1 off an added shot or syrup | $1 |
| 60 | $2 off an item | $2 |
| 100 | Brewed coffee or tea, a bakery item or snack | $6 |
| 200 | A handcrafted drink or hot breakfast | $10 |
| 300 | A salad, sandwich, protein box or packaged coffee | $16 |
| 400 | Select merchandise or Reserve coffee | $20 |
The birthday reward. It's one free handcrafted drink, food item or bottled drink. To qualify, you must join at least 7 days before your birthday, give your birthday in your account and make at least one Star-earning purchase before your birthday each year. Green members can use it only on the day; Gold members get 7 days and Reserve members 30.
Free Mod Mondays. Once a month, on a Monday Starbucks picks, members get one free customization worth up to $2.
When Stars expire. At Green, Stars expire six months after the month you earned them, unless you make a qualifying purchase, redeem a Reward or reload $30 or more digitally in the month before. Gold and Reserve Stars don't expire while you keep the level. Stars can't be redeemed for Starbucks Cards, reloads or transfers.
Which apps pay in Starbucks gift cards?
These three name Starbucks on their own pages.
| App | Starbucks card | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Freecash | A cash-out, by region | First cash-out $5 to $20, an ID check |
| Mistplay | Among its gift cards | An ID check, a $550 yearly cap |
| Fetch | For receipt points | You buy first; points expire if idle |
Freecash. Its Starbucks page says you can withdraw earnings as Starbucks gift cards, with a note that "Availability and redemption method depend on your region and may not be directly available." Your first cash-out needs $5 to $20, depending on your region, and an ID check with a selfie, its help says (October 22, 2026).
Mistplay. Its gift cards page lists Starbucks among the brands you can cash out for, and notes that gift cards may vary by region. "An ID check is now part of getting gift cards from the Mistplay Shop for all players," its help says (October 22, 2026), and its terms cap rewards at $550 a calendar year. Mistplay is for adults only.
Fetch. Fetch pays points for receipts, at least 25 a receipt, so you shop first. Its blog said in October 2022 that 10,000 points get you a $10 gift card, which at the minimum is 400 receipts. If your account is inactive for 90 days in a row, your points expire, its help says.
Earning apps like ours. PaysFair pays for surveys, games and campaigns with a gift card by email, from a $1.00 smallest cash-out. Your first cash-out is checked by hand. Its cash-out screen asks for the amount and the email address the card goes to, with no choice of brand, so we can't promise you a Starbucks card. Our gift card apps guide compares more apps that pay in cards.
Which free Starbucks offers are scams?
The free card deals in the results are years old. We got nine results for "free starbucks gift card" on October 24, 2026, and five of them were deal posts dated 2013 to 2023. Each of their four offers needed a purchase or a card registration, such as a free $5 card with a $25 e-gift card bought on one day in September 2023. One more result sat on an AI software company's site, and we didn't open it.
A real offer won't ask you to pay with a gift card. "No real business or government agency will ever tell you to buy a gift card to pay them," the FTC says. In 2024, its Consumer Sentinel Network took in 41,120 fraud reports in which people paid by gift card or reload card, with $212 million reported lost.
What do other guides on this leave out?
We read seven guides that rank for this and a related search on October 24, 2026. None mentions the Rewards levels Starbucks introduced on March 10, 2026, that Stars expire, or the purchase the birthday reward needs. None says Stars can't buy Starbucks Cards, and none names the FTC. One is a 2013 post about a sign-up offer.
Questions people ask about free Starbucks gift cards
How can I get a free Starbucks gift card?
Starbucks' terms say Stars can't be redeemed for Starbucks Cards, so a free card has to come from somewhere else. Some earning apps pay in Starbucks cards, such as Freecash, Mistplay and Fetch, each under its own rules.
How many Stars do you need for a free Starbucks drink?
200 Stars for a handcrafted drink worth up to $10, or 100 Stars for brewed coffee or tea worth up to $6, by Starbucks' terms of March 10, 2026. At the Green level, you earn 1 Star per $1.
Do Starbucks Stars expire?
At the Green level, Stars expire six months after the month you earned them, unless you make a qualifying purchase, redeem a Reward or make a $30 digital reload. At Gold and Reserve, they don't expire while you keep the level.
Can I get free Starbucks the day after my birthday?
Only at a higher level. A Green member's Birthday Reward is valid only on the birthday itself; Gold members get 7 days and Reserve members 30. You must join at least 7 days before and make one Star-earning purchase that year.
Are free Starbucks gift card offers real?
The ones in the search results are deal posts from 2013 to 2023, and each needed a purchase or a card registration. Anyone who asks you to buy a gift card to pay them is a scammer, the FTC says.
