Real Apple gift cards come from trading in an old device with Apple, or from apps that pay in them. Apple lists fake promotions offering free products among scammers' tricks, and it can void a card it suspects was obtained fraudulently. We read Apple's own pages on October 23, 2026.
We build PaysFair, an earning app that competes with the apps below, so check their numbers yourself. PaysFair is for people 16 and over.
Where do real Apple gift cards come from?
From Apple, for a device you trade in, or from an app that pays you for your time. We don't list codes.
| Way | What you get | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Trade In | An Apple Gift Card or credit | Adults only, eligible devices |
| Earning apps | A card for surveys or tasks | Not every app has them |
| Free code sites | A code Apple can void | Your account at risk |
Apple Trade In. Apple takes many Apple and third-party devices, including Samsung and Google phones, for credit toward a purchase or an Apple Gift Card. Its fine print says you must be at least the age of majority, the age you legally become an adult. A trade-in at a store also needs a valid photo ID. There, a Specialist checks the device on the spot, so the value can differ from the online estimate if the condition doesn't match what you described. A device that isn't eligible for any trade-in value can still be recycled with Apple for free.
Earning apps. Check an app's own list before you start, because not every app pays in Apple cards. Survey Junkie lists iTunes among its gift cards, with cash-outs from $5, and says the options can vary by location and verification status. Freecash's own Apple gift card page says "you can't directly deposit Apple gift cards from our platform," and suggests cashing out to a method such as PayPal. Search results show Apple card pages in the reward stores of Swagbucks and PrizeRebel, though we couldn't read either page.
Earning apps like ours. PaysFair pays for surveys, games and campaigns with a gift card by email, from a $1.00 smallest cash-out, and your first cash-out is checked by hand. Its cash-out screen asks for the amount and the email address the card goes to, with no choice of brand. So we can't promise you an Apple card.
What do Apple's terms say about free codes?
Apple can void or deactivate a gift card without a refund if it suspects the card was obtained or used fraudulently or against its terms. It can also suspend or terminate the account. Its terms add that its cards can't be exchanged or resold, and that Apple isn't responsible for losses from lost or stolen cards, or from use without permission. So a "free" code from a stranger can vanish from your balance.
Apple's scam advice goes further. It lists fake promotions that offer free products and prizes among the tricks scammers use. It also says to never share your Apple Account password or verification codes with anyone. If you might have typed your password into a scam site, Apple says to change it right away and make sure two-factor authentication is on.
You'll see the problem in the search results. We ran two web searches on October 23, 2026. Of the 19 results, 12 were code lists, code generators or pages on sites with nothing to do with gift cards. Six of those 12 were blog posts on other companies' websites, such as a stroller brand's and a sticker printer's. Two were wiki pages at universities, both titled as code generators. The other four were a list of "free codes", a post on a founders' forum, a PDF in an economics group's uploads and a test site.
Which Apple gift card offers are scams?
Each warning in this table comes from Apple's or the FTC's own pages.
| Offer | What their pages say |
|---|---|
| A "free gift card" promotion | Apple: fake ones are a scam trick |
| Paying a bill or a tax in Apple cards | Apple: they buy only from Apple |
| Sharing the numbers on the back | Apple: not with anyone you don't know well |
| A prize with fees paid in cards | FTC: it's a scam |
| A card from an online auction site | FTC: it may be fake or stolen |
Apple says its gift cards can be used only to buy products and services from Apple. If someone asks you to pay with them for anything else, like a utility bill or a government fee, you might be the target of a scam. Once scammers have the numbers on the back, Apple says, the money might be spent before you can contact law enforcement or Apple Support. In 2024, the FTC's Consumer Sentinel Network took in 41,120 fraud reports in which people paid by gift card or reload card, with $212 million reported lost.
If it's happened to you, the FTC lists Apple's number for gift card scams, 1 (800) 275-2273. Say "gift card" to reach a person, and ask whether the money is still on the card: if it is, Apple can freeze it. Keep a copy of the card or your store receipt, and report the scam to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Can you turn an Apple gift card into cash?
Mostly, you can't. Apple's terms say its gift cards aren't redeemable for cash and can't be returned for a cash refund, except as required by law. Our gift card guide covers where state law requires a cash payout, and our Amazon gift card guide covers the same questions for Amazon cards.
What do other guides on this leave out?
We read five guides on free Apple and iTunes gift cards on October 23, 2026, and two more wouldn't load for us. Three are earning apps' own blogs. None mentions Apple Trade In, and none names the FTC or gives Apple's number for scam victims. None says Apple can void a card obtained the wrong way. Two warn about scams, and one says plainly that code generators don't work. One headline promises 2026 methods, while the page's own data says it was last updated in August 2025.
