You can earn from gaming by testing games, streaming them, posting videos, using reward apps or selling what you own. Game testing gives the clearest number: PlaytestCloud says a 15-minute test generally pays $5 to $9. We read each platform's own rules on October 23, 2026.

We build PaysFair, an earning app that competes with the apps below, so check their numbers yourself. PaysFair is for people 16 and over.

What are the ways to earn money playing games?

Each of these has published rules. We read them on October 23, 2026, and we leave out any game that takes a stake to enter.

Test games

PlaytestCloud pays players to record a playtest and answer a survey. It says a 15-minute playtest and survey generally pays $5 to $9, and each invitation states the amount. Recording longer than asked doesn't pay more, and the first onboarding test is unpaid. There's no payout threshold. Rewards come through a payout partner as gift cards, virtual bank cards, donations or PayPal, and PayPal costs 6%. PlaytestCloud also says it never asks testers to pay to join.

Stream on Twitch

Twitch now gives every streamer tools like Bits and subs, but only Affiliates and Partners get a payout. Since early June 2026, the Affiliate bar is 4 hours of streaming on 4 different days, at least 3 average viewers on 4 days, and 25 followers. Before that, it was 8 hours, 7 days and 50 followers.

YouTube's Partner Program needs 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours in 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days, and an AdSense account. AdSense accepts applicants from 18. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian can sign up with their own Google account.

Play reward apps

Reward apps pay you for reaching goals in games that advertisers want people to play. AppsFlyer, which measures app ads, calls the model cost per engagement: advertisers pay when a user takes a specific action, such as completing a certain level in a game.

The credit often waits first. KashKick says many offers and game milestones are pending for 1 to 31 days, about 14 on average. Freecash's terms let it hold offer credits for up to 90 days. Our page on games that pay real money explains who funds those rewards and why your hours are capped.

Earning apps like ours. PaysFair's game tasks work the same way: a game's publisher pays when a player reaches a goal, PaysFair keeps a share, and each task shows its amount before you start. PaysFair publishes no hourly figure. It pays a gift card by email, from a $1.00 smallest cash-out.

Sell what you collect

Selling items has its own limits. Steam's agreement says Steam Wallet funds have no cash value and can't be exchanged for cash, and Valve may charge a fee on Community Market sales. It also bans selling your account. If you sell physical things, such as trading cards, on eBay, its user agreement says you can't use it if you're under 18.

How much does an hour of gaming really pay?

Of these, only testing publishes a typical rate, and even that is PlaytestCloud's "generally." Twitch pays out only to Affiliates and Partners, and YouTube pays through its Partner Program, which has its own bar. Reward apps pay per goal, after pending periods, and PaysFair doesn't publish an hourly figure either.

Two guides do give hourly numbers. One ranking page puts a big game reward app at $1 to $3 an hour, and Freecash's own guide says its writer earned about $1.50 in an hour.

Which gaming money offers are scams?

The FTC says task scams ask you to do simple, repetitive tasks, such as liking videos. Its rule for any job offer is simple: never pay anyone to get paid, or to get a job.

Do you pay taxes on money from gaming?

Yes. The IRS says gig income, including creative services sold through an app, must be reported even if it's side work, isn't on a tax form, or is paid in any form.

We read five guides on this question and its neighbor, games that pay real money, on October 23, 2026. Only one gives streaming payout rules, and two mention paid game testing. One says Steam market money is store credit. Two give long sections to games that take an entry fee, and none names the FTC.

Questions people ask about earning money playing games

Can you really make money playing games?

Yes, in a few ways, each with its own rules. Game testing is the clearest: PlaytestCloud says a 15-minute playtest and survey generally pays $5 to $9. Twitch pays out only to Affiliates and Partners, and reward apps pay per goal after pending periods.

Are there jobs where you get paid to play video games?

Game testing comes closest. PlaytestCloud invites players to record a playtest and answer a survey, generally for $5 to $9 per 15-minute test, and its onboarding test is unpaid.

Can kids make money playing video games?

Only in a few ways. YouTube pays through AdSense, which needs you to be 18, though a parent or guardian can sign up with their own Google account. Selling on eBay needs 18 too. PlaytestCloud lets children under 13 in the US join tests made for children only after it verifies a parent.

Can you make money selling game items?

On Steam, the rules leave little room. Its agreement says Steam Wallet funds have no cash value and can't be exchanged for cash, and that Valve may charge a fee on Community Market sales. It also bans selling your account.

Do you need to spend money to make money playing games?

No. PlaytestCloud says it never asks testers to pay, and the FTC's rule for any job offer is to never pay anyone to get paid. This page leaves out games that take a stake to enter.
