You can make some money while pregnant, but mostly in small, sit-down amounts: surveys and studies that want expecting parents, and product testing. The bigger money is paid work. US law says an employer with 15 or more staff must adjust the job for your pregnancy.
This page is about money and rights, not health. Ask your doctor or midwife what's safe for you. We build PaysFair, an earning app that competes with the survey panels below, so check their numbers yourself. PaysFair is for people 16 and over.
How can I make money while pregnant?
The options that fit a pregnancy have one thing in common. You can do them sitting down, on your own time. We read what each one pays or offers on its own pages, on 26 September 2026:
| Option | What it paid or offers | What it asks of you | Where we read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| A survey panel for expecting parents | Momsurvey: a fixed payment or prize-draw entries per survey, paid by PayPal | About 10 minutes a survey; 18 or over | Momsurvey |
| A second panel | Ask Mom: a reward for every survey, even when you don't qualify; $10 buys an Amazon code | Your profile, kept up to date | Ask Mom |
| A focus group | $100 gift card for a 60-minute online interview; $65 for a group | Both listings we found were closed | FF Focus Group on FocusGroups.org |
| A paid study | One study, published in 2018: $2.00 in points per survey taker, while the buyer was quoted about $23 | Extra federal rules protect you | University of Pennsylvania, JMIR 2018 |
| Testing baby products | Kolcraft: keep new products; items still in development go back, and your time is paid | Using the product and giving feedback | Kolcraft |
| Your job, adjusted | Longer breaks, a stool, shorter hours, telework | An employer with 15 or more staff | EEOC |
| Plasma | Not allowed while pregnant | Wait about 6 months after | FDA, BioLife, Octapharma |
None of these replace a wage. The panels pay per survey and the listings close. Studies pay for your time, not for being pregnant. If you have a job, keeping it matters more than any of these.
Whatever you earn counts as income. The IRS says side income goes on your tax return. That holds even when it's part-time, paid in goods, or not on a 1099 form.
Are there paid surveys for pregnant women?
Yes, and being pregnant helps here. Survey buyers pay per finished survey. One large survey exchange's rate card prices each one by factors such as the incidence rate, the share of people who qualify. Fewer qualifiers means a higher price.
Pregnant people are hard to find. By our count from CDC and Census numbers, about 1 US adult in 100 is pregnant on a given day.
Two panels are built for this reader. Momsurvey says its surveys are for pregnant women and women with a baby under 2. Ask Mom calls itself a platform for new and expecting mothers. It says you earn a reward for every survey you take, whether you qualify or not.
What reaches you is far less than the buyer pays. In a University of Pennsylvania study published in 2018, a panel quoted about $23 per finished survey of pregnant smokers. Each person who took it got 2,000 points, worth $2.00.
Our page on paid surveys for pregnant women covers the panels and what they do with your answers. If surveys keep screening you out, why surveys disqualify you explains it.
Are there paid studies for pregnant women?
Yes. When we searched for paid surveys for pregnant women, six of the top ten results were studies run by universities and clinics. They're research, not market research, so extra rules can apply.
For research the US health department runs or funds, federal rules add protections for pregnant people (45 CFR 46, Subpart B). One of them: no inducement, "monetary or otherwise", may be offered to end a pregnancy.
Market research sometimes runs longer sessions too. FF Focus Group listed a $100 gift card for a 60-minute online interview with expecting moms. A second listing offered $65. Both were closed when we read them.
What can I donate to make money while pregnant?
Not plasma, and not blood. The FDA's donor rule makes you ineligible while pregnant and for 6 weeks after a pregnancy.
Plasma companies ask for a longer wait. BioLife says you're eligible again six months after you're no longer pregnant. Octapharma recommends at least 6 months after the birth.
Paid studies are the closer fit, since some pay for your time and answers.
How to make money while pregnant and on bed rest?
Pick things you can do lying down or sitting, in short sessions. Surveys take about 10 minutes each at Momsurvey. Product feedback can happen from the sofa.
If you have a job, rest doesn't have to mean losing it. The EEOC's examples of changes an employer may have to make include telework and shorter hours. They also include part-time work and leave for health care appointments.
Ask your doctor or midwife first what you can safely do. We can't tell you that, and nobody selling a side hustle should either.
How can I make money while pregnant and unemployed?
Look for a job as you would otherwise. It's illegal to refuse to hire you because you're pregnant. The EEOC says the laws cover hiring and the application itself, at employers with 15 or more employees.
Under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, an employer must also make reasonable changes for an applicant. The exception is undue hardship.
Be wary of home jobs that find you. The FTC says work-from-home scams make you pay for starter kits, training or certificates that turn out useless.
Can jobs fire pregnant women?
Not for being pregnant. Three federal laws cover it, enforced by the EEOC and the Department of Labor:
| Law | Which employers | What it gives you | Paid? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pregnant Workers Fairness Act | 15 or more employees | Reasonable changes to the job, such as breaks, a stool, shorter hours, telework | You keep working |
| Title VII and the ADA | 15 or more employees | No pregnancy discrimination in hiring, firing or pay | Not a benefit |
| Family and Medical Leave Act | 50 or more within 75 miles | Up to 12 weeks of job-protected leave, after 12 months and 1,250 hours there | Unpaid |
The PWFA took effect on 27 June 2023. It also stops an employer from forcing leave on you when another change would let you keep working.
State law can add more. The EEOC says more than 30 states and cities have their own accommodation laws.
If you think you were treated unfairly, the deadline matters. The EEOC gives 180 days to file a charge, and state law can extend it.
Are there work from home jobs for pregnant women without investment?
Yes, real ones never ask for money. The FTC says honest employers, including the federal government, "will never ask you to pay to get a job."
The FTC names the common traps:
- starter kits, training or certificates you pay for up front
- reshipping packages, which "is never a real job"
- a check you deposit, then send part of back, or turn into gift cards
- mystery shopping that asks you to pay first
The FTC's account of these scams starts with an ad that promises thousands of dollars a month for little time and effort. Search the company's name with "scam" or "complaint" before you reply.
Can I get money from the government while pregnant?
Mostly as food and health cover, not cash. Two programs matter most.
WIC covers women who are pregnant, up to 6 months after a pregnancy, or breastfeeding. If you're on Medicaid, SNAP or TANF, you may already meet its income rule. A pregnancy also counts as an extra person in your household, which raises the limit.
Medicaid and CHIP can cover you for free or at low cost once you report the pregnancy, HealthCare.gov says. That cover can start at any time. Being pregnant doesn't open a new sign-up window for a Marketplace plan, but the birth does.
Federal leave doesn't pay. FMLA protects your job for up to 12 weeks, unpaid, if you qualify.
